Ginger Turmeric Tea

This is a miracle wonder tea if you ask me. I got this recipe from my Osteopath Nigel Jones who also has a personal interest in Ayurvedic cuisine. I am a big fan of Iyengar Yoga and being healthy and looking for natural ways to heal and boost our bodies and immune systems so when Nigel told me about the amazing power of just these three ingredients together: ginger, black pepper and turmeric I was really excited and now this recipe is a favourite and important one for Autumn and Winter. The benefits of ginger, turmeric* and black pepper together help our bodies in many ways for example:

Liver detoxification
Stimulates digestion
Cleanses the body
Improves circulation
Strengthens immunity
Warms and soothes the body

So next time you are feeling a bit under the weather, fancy doing a light detox, have sore aches and pains or inflamed muscles etc. why not try making yourself this tea and see for yourself the wonders of this little concoction! Enough of my babbling though here’s the recipe!



What you need to know:
Prep time: 6 mins
Cook time: 10 mins

Ingredients for 1 mug of tea:
1 tsp grated turmeric root or 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp grated ginger root or 1/2 tsp dried ground ginger
2 – 3 twists of black pepper (from a pepper mill)
1 1/2 cups filtered water
juice of 1/2 lemon
2 tsp maple syrup or honey to taste

1. Peel and grate the ginger and turmeric if using fresh. Combine turmeric, ginger pepper and water in a saucepan on medium-high heat to simmer for 5 – 10 minutes until hot but not boiling.

2. Strain and pour into a mug, add lemon juice and maple syrup or honey to taste, stir and enjoy.

*Watch out for turmeric, it is used as a natural yellow dye and will stain everything yellow!
